For students
Your guide to the portal
Everything you need to get started and to find your way round, step by step. Keep it handy, or print it.
Part 1
Getting in
Do this once, on the phone or computer you will study on.
Create your student account
theacademyofinfluenceinternational.com/register
- 1.Open theacademyofinfluenceinternational.com and tap “Sign in” at the top of the page (on a phone, open the Menu first).
- 2.Under the sign-in box, tap “Create one”.
- 3.Type your first and last name and your email address, tick the privacy box, and tap “Create my account”.
- 4.Open the email the Academy sends you (“Confirm your Academy account”) and tap “Choose my password”.
- 5.Choose a password of at least 10 characters. You are signed in and taken straight into your student portal, with your modules, the class and your fees ready.
No email after a few minutes? Check your junk or spam folder. The link works once, within three days. Still nothing? Write to the office.
Signing in next time
theacademyofinfluenceinternational.com/login
- 1.Tap “Sign in”, enter your email and password, and tap “Sign in”.
- 2.Forgotten your password? Tap “Forgotten your password?” and we will email you a link to choose a new one.
Put the Academy on your home screen
theacademyofinfluenceinternational.com/app
- 1.On an Android phone (Chrome): open the site, tap the ⋮ menu, then “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”.
- 2.On an iPhone (Safari): open the site, tap the Share button, then “Add to Home Screen”.
- 3.Open it from the new icon. Then, in the portal, go to Security & app and turn on phone alerts, so you are told about class nights, marked work and replies from the office.
Turn on two-step sign-in (recommended)
Portal › Security & app
- 1.Install a free authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
- 2.In the portal, open Security & app and choose to turn on two-step sign-in. Scan the code with the app and type in the six-digit number it shows.
- 3.Write down or save the recovery codes it gives you, somewhere safe. They get you in if you ever lose your phone.
Part 2
Every week
Classes are live on Google Meet every Thursday, 7 to 9pm UK time, with questions and answers from 8:45pm.
Join the Thursday class
Portal › Live class
- 1.On Thursday evening, open the portal and tap Live class. Where the Academy has put the Google Meet link there, a button takes you straight in; otherwise the link comes by email or in the class group chat.
- 2.When you arrive, tap “I’m here” on the same page to mark yourself present.
- 3.Join a few minutes early, with your camera on, as the Camera On Policy asks. If you cannot have your camera on, tell your lecturer beforehand.
- 4.Your Timetable shows every class night, and skips the Christmas and Holy Week breaks.
Study each module
Portal › Courses
- 1.Tap Courses, then a module. You will find its lessons, notes and worksheets, and any short quiz.
- 2.Tick each lesson when you have finished it; your progress is kept for you.
- 3.At the top of every module are its Reading list, its Discussion (ask questions, share thoughts with your class), Book a tutorial, and Evaluate this module (anonymous, at the end).
- 4.Every Bible reference in your notes opens the Bible inside the site. The Study companion can help you work through a passage.
Watch a class again
Portal › Recordings
- 1.Recordings of classes are kept in the portal when they are made, so you can catch up if you miss a Thursday. Filter them by module.
Part 3
Coursework and examinations
Everything is handed in through the portal, so nothing is lost in an inbox.
Hand in coursework
Portal › Coursework
- 1.Open the assignment. Read the brief and the due date.
- 2.Type your answer in the box (it saves as you go), or upload your file: a Word document, a PDF or a clear photograph.
- 3.When it is finished, tap “Hand in”, tick the academic integrity declaration, and confirm. After that it cannot be changed without asking.
- 4.When it is marked you will get an email and a phone alert. Your mark and your lecturer’s comments are on the assignment.
Need more time? On the assignment, tap “Ask for an extension”, before the deadline if you can.
Sit an examination
Portal › Examinations
- 1.Examinations appear here when they open. Read the instructions, then begin; there may be a time limit.
- 2.Answer every question, then submit. Results are released by the registrar, and you will be told when yours is ready.
See your results
Portal › Transcript and Certificates
- 1.Your transcript shows your result for each module as it is recorded, and can be printed.
- 2.Certificates appear as you complete modules. Each has a number anyone can check at the Academy’s verification page.
Part 4
Fees
Your account page shows exactly what you have paid and what is left.
Check and pay your fees
Portal › Account
- 1.Account shows the registration fee, your tuition (paid in full or on the monthly plan), and the graduation robes fee.
- 2.You can pay by card, set up monthly card payments so instalments go out by themselves, or pay by bank transfer using the details shown.
- 3.Your statement of account can be printed for a church or sponsor.
If paying has become difficult, write to the office early. We would much rather talk it through.
Part 5
Getting help
You are never on your own with this.
Write to the office
Portal › Messages
- 1.Any question at all: a class, a deadline, your fees. The office replies in the portal and you are emailed when it does.
Book a tutorial
Portal › Office hours
- 1.A short one-to-one with a lecturer. Pick a free time, say what you would like to talk about, and you will get a confirmation with the link.
Make a formal request
Portal › Requests
- 1.For an extension, extenuating circumstances, an appeal, a complaint, pastoral support or prayer, or an official letter (for a church, employer or embassy).
- 2.Each request is decided by a named member of staff, and the decision and reasons are written to you there. Pastoral requests are read only by the Principal and the President.
The rest of the portal
- 1.Common Room: a discussion space for the whole cohort.
- 2.Opportunities: ministry roles, volunteering and events that churches have shared with the Academy.
- 3.Library guide (on the website): free theological books and articles online, and how to write and reference an essay.
